Why Alberta's government wants out of the federal dental care plan — and who it could impact

VCC's Ameera Shivji spoke about the concerns around income thresholds for dental care programs

In late June 2024, the Alberta government announced they would be pulling out of The Canadian Dental Care Plan. While Alberta does offer the most extensive, publicly funded coverage in Canada through a variety of plans, the income threshold may not cover all those who need coverage.

"When it comes to trade-offs, dental care is often going to be the one that is traded off. Often when people don't have insurance, they're likely not to get care." said VCC's Ameera Shivji about the income thresholds and the need for more extensive dental care.
