Alberta used to have the highest minimum wage in the country. Now it's the second lowest

VCC's Meaghon Reid spoke with the CBC about the fact folks earning minimum wage can not make ends meet.

The minimum wage in Alberta used to be the highest in the country when it was raised to $15/hour in 2018. Now it is the second lowest, having not been raised since.

"We know that because people who are making minimum wage aren't able to make ends meet, they're having to make trade-offs in terms of things like medication and food particularly. That's what we're hearing the most." Meaghon Reid told CBC about the consequences of not raising the minimum wage in the province.

Other provinces in Canada have been raising minimum wages to keep pace with the cost of living. The most recent data on workers earning minimum wage shows that 73% are adults, which 41% having children.
