Responses to the 2025 Alberta Budget

VCC's Meaghon Reid spoke about the wins and concerns surrounding the 2025 Alberta budget

28 February 2025

Meaghon Reid says VCC is pleased to see that funding commitment maintained in this new budget alongside the new lower tax bracket, as she believes these measures "are going to help folks from an affordability perspective as well, particularly lower income earners."

We spoke to CBC about the new Alberta budget and its implications for Calgarians, especially those living on a low income:

She also spoke with LiveWire abut the tax bracket, "$60,000 is positive from an affordability perspective, if you are in that range, and so we would congratulate the government for putting that in as that will make a difference to a lot of people. However, I do worry that a lot of the budget, including this announcement around the $60,000 threshold, doesn’t necessarily look at the people in our city or province that are making far below that number."

When speaking with CTV News Calgary, Meaghon noted that "We’ve seen the affordability crisis effects on people who are lower-income earners, and we are now facing a potential, actual recession, so we can’t act fast enough to take care of that lowest band of earners.”
