City of Calgary administration has been directed to explore a change to access fees on electricity bills that prioritizes energy affordability. The access fee is tied to the Regulated Rate Option (RRO) price for power. The RRO has spiked over the past few months making it higher than many other municipalities in Alberta.
VCC's Meaghon Reid discussed the move with the Calgary Herald.
“There’s very few items that are generally a municipal control when it comes to affordability factors, but this local access fee is,” she said. “I think it’s encouraging that we’re taking a look at what we can control to help Calgarians out during this time,” she explained while applauding the approach.
