VCC discusses rising food costs and desperation some are feeling

CityNews explored people in desperate situations selling donated food to make ends meet in a recent segment. VCC's Meaghon Reid discussed the issue and how we need to look at the faces behind those making these tough decisions not to eat to pay for other necessities. It's a sign of desperation and struggle woven throughout Calgary she explained, but there are solutions like boosting income supports. View the segment below.

"Looking at the inflation numbers yesterday, the food inflation is through the roof: meat, dairy, grain, it's all above 5% in terms of inflation." explained Meaghon. She also said food prices are making things harder for about 190,000 Calgarians that live in poverty and about 80,000 people who need affordable housing. "That human is hungry, and that they can't feed their family that night is a really devastating thing," she went on to say.
