"Poverty is a problem that just becomes more expensive if you do not treat it."

Meaghon Reid spoke with the Calgary Herald ahead of the Federal Budget 2024 on VCC's hopes for the announcement.

“I would caution against any reaction that criticizes the amount of government spending because poverty is a problem that just becomes more expensive if you do not treat it,” said Meaghon Reid about the Federal Budget 2024 announcement.

She also noted to the Calgary Herald that, “One of our concerns around these housing announcements is while they’re great, there’s not a lot of timeframes put around these.” The federal government announced a variety of initiatives leading up to the full budget on March 16 such as the Canada Rental Protection Fund and the plan to build 3.87 million homes by 2031.
