Global Calgary reports on the rising costs of food and the renewed calls for a living wage

The renew calls for a living wage. "The average family of four in our city, is shelling out thousands more per year, just to eat."

Steven's study for Vibrant Communities Calgary, found overall family expenses were over $80,193 in 2020. In 2021, not much of a tilt at $81,293. But it's a different story when you look at food price hikes. The average family shelled out $11,648 last year. That went up to a whopping $14,285 this year, roughly $220 more per month forcing some to make some tough choices.
