Meaghon Reid discusses how investments in people living on low incomes can save the City money

    Calgary city councillors are moving into the next phase of reviewing the City of Calgary's proposed four-year budget. VCC's Meaghon Reid discussed how some investments to help the most vulnerable can save the City money in the long run.
    "The more investments we make in affordable housing, for example, that saves on city services like police, fire, and shelter space," she said.

    Poverty Costs: An Economic Case for a Preventative Poverty Reduction Strategy in Alberta found that perpetuating poverty resulted in an annual expenditure of $7.1 to $9.5 billion dollars.
