Calgary, AB, September 13, 2017 – Vibrant Communities Calgary and the Social Policy Collaborative will be host a Municipal Policy Fair for mayor, councilor, and public school board trustee candidates on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 from 7:30 – 9:00 a.m. at the Kahanoff Centre & Conference Space (105 – 12 Avenue Southeast, #200).
The Municipal Policy Fair is an opportunity for candidates to learn more about the social service sector, engage with organizations and key stakeholders in the sector, and create dialogue on issues critical to the upcoming election. Importantly, it will also help candidates more meaningfully engage with constituents around topics close to their heart.
In addition to Vibrant Communities Calgary, organizations attending include the Further Education Society, Inn from the Cold, Norfolk Housing Association, Carya Calgary, Momentum, the Women’s Centre, Basic Income Calgary, the Calgary Homeless Foundation, the Calgary Chamber of Voluntary Organizations, Poverty Talks!, Renters Action Movement, Calgary Service Provider Council, Calgary Reads, Calgary Ability Network, Calgary Legal Guidance, Servants Anonymous, United Way Calgary, Horizon Housing, the Calgary Food Bank, Social Workers for Social Justice, Grow Calgary, and Calgary Mental Health Association.
“The health and vibrancy of a community is judged by the way it cares for its most vulnerable members. In Calgary, we benefit from a diverse set of social services and programs. Municipal government is closest to the people; therefore, it is critical for the mayor, councilors, and school trustees to have a deep understanding of the services, opportunities and challenges facing Calgary’s social sector. The Policy Fair provides an opportunity for candidates and service providers to meet and share,” says Franco Savoia, Executive Director of Vibrant Communities Calgary.
