Driving change through policy, community partnerships and media

Review what VCC achieved in 2024

15 May 2025

Today we released our 2024 Report to Community, which highlights the work that Vibrant Communities Calgary has done in advocating for poverty reduction in Calgary. We highlighted the voices of lived experience, exploring the systems that keep poverty in place, developing policy recommendations, and coordinating advocacy and awareness efforts to drive change in our city.
In the report, you can learn more about:
  • How VCC redefined community engagement by inviting Calgarians to imagine, create, and connect in bold new ways, including engaging over 12,000 people in the Central Library Create Space.
  • VCC taking a stand for Calgary’s Low Income Transit Pass and helping ensure that funding continues.
  • The reach VCC had in media, appearing in the news over 550 times to advocate for affordability and poverty reduction.
Our work wouldn’t be possible without generous funding from the City of Calgary and the United Way of Calgary and Area. In addition, many thanks to our Board of Directors who help guide VCC’s work through our inaugural strategic plan.
Poverty reduction takes many hands. Guided by Elders and grounded in our traditional Blackfoot name, ih kanii tai staiiwa, VCC is grateful for the strength of people and partnerships—from our E4A Champion network to co-chairing the Social Policy Collaborative to the many connections with people around our city. Thank you for making this work possible.
