Quarterly Update: April 2017

It has been a tough year for many Albertans as we can see in the significant increase of people who needed Income Supports, food hampers and social services, especially those related to domestic violence. The Ministry of Community and Social Services (formerly The Ministry of Human Services) has forecast $115 million more in expenses for Income and Employment Supports, and expects this spending to stay high into the next fiscal year.
The gender-based analysis from the Ministry of Status of Women is increasingly used across ministries to better address and prevent gender- based violence, and to assure gender and diversity are considered when creating policies and programs. The work of the Ministry of Status of Women seeks to improve women’s economic security, which we know is a significant contributor to independence and economic, social and human assets.
