Times have changed in Calgary and the latest update of the long-term economic strategy for the city is titled Calgary in the New Economy. Approved by City Council in June, it reflects the opportunities and risks, which have arisen from unprecedented technological innovation, and are impacting every sector of the economy.
The strategy is designed to be the blueprint that aligns governments, businesses, educators, community leaders and other key stakeholders on initiatives that support economic competitiveness, embrace shared prosperity and build a strong community.
The strategy is ultimately about people. It was developed by Calgary Economic Development, but it is a plan for Calgary with the direction set through extensive public engagement and roundtables with business, government, education and community leaders.
Vibrant Communities Calgary, as the Stewards of Enough for All: Calgary’s Poverty Reduction Strategy, was an important voice in the discussion that in building a strong community, everyone must have an opportunity to share in the city’s prosperity.
