Housing progress in Calgary and increasing co-pays

VCC commented on changes to the Alberta prescription co-payment

13 June 2025

VCC spoke with LiveWire Calgary about the increase to co-payment on prescriptions. “While we understand that these changes may seem like a few dollars to folks,” said Alka Merlin. “For many of the people in our community who are living on a fixed or a low income, it can have a significant negative impact on their life and their ability to afford basic needs.”
The City of Calgary's Home is Here strategy was presented for an annual update to City Council. VCC's Michelle James shared that VCC strongly supports the strategy but urges council to focus on non-market housing. “We strongly recommend that council continue its momentum in addressing Calgary’s most pressing housing challenges, recognizing that prioritizing housing solutions will support the well-being of Calgary’s most vulnerable and our city’s overall health and prosperity,” she said.
