Community Hubs are resident-led, place-based physical or virtual spaces where residents may gather around community-building events, community economic development, accessing services and recreation. Most importantly, in order to be effective, Community Hubs respond to the unique needs of a particular community, so no two may be identical. In addition to Community Hubs, other strategies to strengthen communities include identifying and encouraging strong peer support networks and supporting residents to focus on the assets of their community, rather than the deficits.

The Community Hubs initiative is a partnership between United Way of Calgary and Area, The City of Calgary, and Rotary Club of Calgary, Downtown, and other Rotary Clubs in Calgary.

Did you know that Canada is the only country in the world with universal health care that does not provide universal coverage for prescription drugs? Prescription drug coverage varies depending on which province you live in and from person to person. Understanding the Impact of COVID-19: Addressing Structural Barriers that are Widening Inequities and Exacerbating Vulnerability uncovered stories of Calgarians living on low incomes skipping medications to pay for other expenses like food and utilities. Those living in energy poverty often experience health conditions that may be exacerbated by living in cold or damp homes. Vibrant Communities Calgary is a member of Alberta's Energy Poverty Roundtable which works to develop solutions to address energy poverty in the Province.
