The minimum wage in Alberta has been $15 an hour since 2018 and now is one of the lowest in Canada.
Meaghon Reid spoke with Sarah Crosbie about how a living wage of $23.70/hour removes the need for trade-offs for basic needs and how more and more people who are in the minimum wage category are needing to make tradeoffs. She suggested that large corporations, such as grocery chains who are reporting record profits, increase their wages. She also noted that those who earn minimum wage are often those who work jobs that keep things running and we need to return to the empathy that occurred during COVID-19 lockdowns where essential workers were recognized for their work.
